PERFECT DAYFOR A STROLL THROUGH THE PARK,

GENEVACOMPETES AT CARNEGIE MELLON

Pittsburgh, PA - It was a picture perfect afternoon at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh on Saturday for the Carnegie Mellon University Invitational. An event that drew 14 women′s teams and 11 men′s team to action in a 5K women′s event and an 8K event for the men, Geneva attempted to hold its own against some of the region′s top talent.

The women started the day with a field of 164 competitors. Geneva′s Rebecca VanRegenmorter crossed the line in 20th position with a time of 20:08. Teammate Nicole Okerlund also had an impressive showing with a 31st place finish in 20:40. Other top Geneva performers included Sarah Davis (69) and Monica Boyer (93). Geneva′s women finished the day with 253 points which was good enough for a 9th place overall finish. Indiana University of Pennsylvania won the women′s event with 66 total points, including three runners in the top ten. CMU′s Liz Stern won the event with a time of 18:51.

In men′s action, the host Carnegie Mellon University won the event with 41 points, while Geneva finished 11th out of 13 schools with 308 points. Geneva′s top finisher was Josh Gunnett in 55th place with a time of 28:06. Teammate Josh Falk finished 61st in a time of 28:20. Chris Clark of California University of Pennsylvania took home the first place trophy with a time of 25:18.

Geneva′s cross country teams will head to Canton, Oh next Saturday for the Walsh University Invitational.
