LATE PK SENDS GENEVA STREAKING IN WRONG DIRECTION AT WESTMINSTER

New Wilmington, PA - Geneva′s men′s soccer team enjoyed a 10-game winning streak throughout most of September and early October. After dropping a 2-1 decision to W & J on Wednesday, the Golden Tornadoes were looking to get back into the win column on Saturday at Westminster. A late penalty kick goal in the final ten minutes proved to be the difference in a 2-1 Westminster victory that sent Geneva to its first two game losing streak of the season. The Golden Tornadoes fell to 10-3 on the season including back to back losses for the first time in 2008.

After Westminster opened the scoring early in the first half, Geneva quickly tied the game one minute later when Bruce Fox was fouled in the box to earn a penalty kick for the Golden Tornadoes. Kenton Burkhart made no mistake as he buried the PK to get Geneva even in the match. The game remained tied until ironically it was a Westminster penalty kick that proved to be the difference. With less than ten minutes remaining in the match, Geneva′s Gabe Kleinart committed a foul in the penalty area and the Titans were able to convert on the PK take a lead it would not relinquish.

Geneva head coach Todd Beall was in no mood to make excuses although the Golden Tornadoes were forced to play without three key starters. Geneva played without Chris Morshl, Jake McCracken and Josh Mann on Saturday night. "We need to do a better job closing out games," says Beall. "It has been a frustrating week with two losses, but we simply need to get better."

The Golden Tornadoes will enjoy some time off to lick their wounds before heading back to action next Friday when they host Saint Vincent College.
