GENEVAEARNS SPLITIN DAYONE
OF NCCAA REGIONALS

Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva College played host to the 2008 NCCAA East Regional Tournament and at the end of day one the Golden Tornadoes are sitting at 1-1. Geneva opened the tournament with a hard fought 3-2 loss to Malone (25-22, 15-25, 23-25, 25-22, 15-12). In the night cap, the Golden Tornadoes rebounded with a 3-1 victory (25-18, 21-25, 25-20, 25-22) over Roberts Wesleyan. The two-match split helped Geneva move its overall record to 18-6.

Geneva will still have an outside chance of pulling out a tournament victory if all the cards fall into place on Saturday. The Golden Tornadoes will face top seeded Mt. Vernon in the morning and finish the tournament against Nyack on Saturday afternoon.

Rachel Kuegler played the match of her young career against Malone with a season best 23 kills. Adriane Blake added 13 kills, seven service aces and 23 digs in a very complete effort. Senior Elizabeth Fisher also chipped in with nine kills. ]

Junior setter Brandi Snavely combined for 83 assists in Friday′s two matches. In the victory over Roberts Wesleyan, Blake picked up 15 more kills while Kuegler came back to Earth with 12 kills. Fisher was outstanding on the defensive end of the court in the night cap with a team and career best 40 digs to go with her nine kills.

At the end of day one, Mt. Vernon Nazarene and Malone are sitting at 2-0, while Geneva is 1-1. Roberts Wesleyan and Nyack ended day one with scoreless marks of 0-2.

The winner of the regional tournament will receive an automatic bid to the national tournament in Colorado in December.
