SENIOR NIGHT STAR, BROOKS CAPSOFF MEMORABLE

NIGHT WITH LATE GAME WINNER

Beaver Falls, PA -. Seniors will always remember their final home contest many years after graduation. For senior Melissa Brooks and the Geneva women′s soccer team, Saturday night′s 1-0 victory will be engrained in their memory forever. Brooks scored the only goal of the match in a 1-0 victory over Thomas More on Saturday night to move Geneva′s overall record to 7-3-5. The Golden Tornadoes have lost just once in their last 11 matches and took down one of the top teams in the Presidents′ Athletic Conference.

The Saints significantly dominated the match on the stat sheet, but on the scoreboard Geneva got all the offense it needed. Goals have been very hard to come by a Geneva team that was coming off back to scoreless ties. In the 85th minute, Melissa Brooks took a pass from Rebecca Shaw and headed it into the net for the only goal Geneva would need.

Why was one goal enough? Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Londino continued to shine in the net for the Golden Tornadoes with her seventh victory of the season. Londino registered her ninth shut-out of the season which tied a single season record that has stood for 19 years. Londino made 12 saves in the match for her third consecutive shut-out.

Thomas More out shot Geneva 29-5 for the match, including a 12-3 edge in shots on goal, but the Saints could not get one past Londino.

Geneva will close out the regular season with matches at Thiel and Grove City next week. It will then await the NCCAA East regionals later in the month of November.
