WINNING FORMULA CONTINUES FOR GENEVA IN WIN AT THIEL

Greenville, PA - Geneva men′s soccer coach Todd Beall has been searching for the winning formula that enabled his team to win ten of the first 11 matches of the season. Most recently, the Golden Tornadoes have dropped four of their last five matches and were looking to turn things around on Wednesday. Coach Beall and the Golden Tornadoes got what they needed with a 3-0 victory over Thiel College on Wednesday afternoon. Geneva improved to 12-5 on the season with just one regular season match remaining on the schedule.

It took Geneva a while to get its offense rolling after both teams played to a scoreless tie after the first 45 minutes. Just ten minutes into the second half Geneva goal scoring leader Bruce Fox struck for his eighth goal of the season to give the Golden Tornadoes a lead they would not relinquish. Ten minutes later, Caleb Musselman and Jake McCracken played keep a way from the Thiel defense and Musselman got the last touch and found the back of the net. Fox almost recorded his second goal of the game, but a bullet shot with 15 minutes remaining in regulation bounced off the goalkeeper and found the foot of Paul Liotta who picked up his fourth goal of the season.

Geneva out played and out shot the Tomcats throughout the afternoon, but it was junior goalkeeper David Callahan that insured Thiel would not register a goal. Callahan picked up his third shut- out of the season in his first year with the Golden Tornadoes.

The Golden Tornadoes will travel to Grove City on Saturday to close out the regular season. It will then start the three week waiting game before they can begin play at the NCCAA East regional tournament.
