STREAK CONTINUES FOR LONDINO AND GENEVA, SOPHOMORE BREAKS SHUT-OUT RECORD
Greenville, PA - It would be fair to say anyone that thought Geneva′s women′s soccer team would have lost just one time in its last 12 matches would most likely be sitting in the Golden Tornadoes locker room. Nobody outside the Geneva program could have predicted this sharp turnaround from one year to the next. On Wednesday, the Golden Tornadoes continued to impress the rest of the Presidents′ Athletic Conference with a 3-0 victory over Thiel. With the victory, Geneva improved to 8-3-5, including a five match unbeaten streak.
Equally as impressive as Geneva′s overall record and unbeaten streak has been the streak put together by sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Londino. After allowing a late goal in Geneva′s 3-1 victory over Chatham College, Londino has now gone 410 minutes (4+ games) without allowing a goal. Only forced to stop two shots on Wednesday, Londino registered her 10th shut-out of the season breaking Geneva′s single season record that has stood since 1989.
Geneva′s offense got on track with the game′s first goal in the 33rd minute. After Kelsey Anderson drew a foul in the penalty area, senior Amanda Caler took advantage with a penalty kick goal for her second tally of the season. The Golden Tornadoes took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
Just two minutes into the second half, Geneva capitalized on a corner kick opportunity. Rebecca Shaw′s corner kick bounced around the box like a pinball before freshman Rebecca Bigenho found the net for her first collegiate goal. Geneva′s final goal of the night came courtesy of Kelsey Anderson yet again. For the second time in the game she forced a penalty kick. This time around she finished her own work by scoring on the PK for some added insurance.
Geneva dominated the pace of the game for most of the night indicated by the substantial advantage in shots as the Golden Tornadoes outshot the Tomcats 15-2 in the game.
The Golden Tornadoes will finish the regular season at Grove City on Saturday before preparing for the NCCAA east regional tournament on November 21-22.
