This fall′s play The Diviners will run Thursday, Oct. 30 through Saturday, Nov. 1 and Thursday, Nov. 6 through Saturday, Nov. 8. It is the story of former preacher C. C. Showers and town idiot Buddy Layman. A near-drowning experience has left Buddy with a phobia of water and an uncanny gift for sensing it. Showers is looking for a new life and is hailed as a savior by the townsfolk. After making a connection, both Buddy and Showers are forced to confront their fears in the story about things giving life also taking it away.

Sophomore Brenna Garda portrays the character Buddy Layman. Acting with her are fellow students Kevin Hinnebusch (sophomore), Lisa Lyons (sophomore), Julie Lohmann (junior) and Corey Fraction (sophomore), as well as others.

The Misanthrope, written in the late 1600s, is the story of two friends with the same love interest. In this critique of high society, the author questions how people judge their peers. Molière also challenges the audience to stay above such pettiness as gossip and malice, as well as illustrating the value of accepting others and yourself.
