WOMEN FINISH 4TH AT PAC CHAMPIONSHIPS, QUALIFY
FOR NCCAA NATIONAL MEET, MEN BRING HOME 6TH
Cincinnati, OH - Just outside of Cincinnati, the Presidents′ Athletic Conference Championships were held at Voice of America Park. Geneva′s men′s and women′s teams each competed with mixed results. While the combination of Josh Gunnett and Josh Falk continued their outstanding seasons, it was only good enough to help the men to a 6th place finish. On the women′s side, the Golden Tornadoes brought home a fourth place finish, which was good enough for the team to qualify for the NCCAA national meet in two weeks in Cedarville, OH.
Coming into the meet, the women′s team knew it had to finish in at least the top five to qualify for the NCCAA nationals. It did itself one better with a fourth place slot. With 112 overall points, Geneva outlasted fifth place Westminster (138 pts) and W & J (142 pts). Leading the way, like much of the season, was senior Rebecca VanRegenmorter. Running a personal 6K best in a time of 22:59, she was one of just six runners to break the 23 minute barrier. In 11th place was teammate Nicole Okerlund, who also set a personal milestone by topping the 24 minute barrier in a time of 23:38. Other top finishers included Sarah Davis (27), Emily Hoobler (28) and Sarah Wilson (40).
On the men′s side, Josh Gunnett put together an 8th place finish with a time of 26:57 on the 8-mile course. Teammate Josh Falk finished 12th in a time of 27:26. Other top finishers included Ryan Thorn (44), Nathan Mansor (45) and Charles "Todd" Walters (49).
Grove City College defended its conference title in both men′s and women′s action by sweeping the meet for the PAC championship.
Geneva′s women, along with Falk and Gunnett on the men′s side, will compete at Cedarville University on November 15th at the NCCAA nationals.
