ANOTHER VICTORY FOR GENEVA AND RUSSIN, G-T′S
GAIN COSTLY WIN AT LAROCHE

Pittsburgh, PA - The early season script was going exactly to plan for interim head coach Amy Russin and the Geneva women′s basketball team. For the second time in three days, the Golden Tornadoes managed to come away victorious to move to 2-0 on the young season. On Monday night, Geneva held off LaRoche by the score of 74-63 to earn the victory and the title to the LaRoche College tournament. Despite the victory, Geneva may have suffered some damaging news as leading scorer Renee Rawding went down late in the game with a foot injury. Rawding had entered the season with the same foot injury she suffered with last year. Her prognosis is still unclear as to her status for not only tomorrow, but perhaps for the rest of the season.

Before getting injured, Rawding was able to lead Geneva with 20 points, including a perfect 8-8 night at the foul line. Geneva also got a solid effort from Michawn Rich, who posted 16 points, nine rebounds and five assists in the victory. Rich also had a strong night from the foul line with a mark of 10-13. As a team, Geneva converted 30-41 foul shots. Geneva′s balanced scoring attack featured eight scorers, including nine points each from Christine Carugati and Val Hamilton. Hamilton led the Golden Tornadoes with 11 rebounds.

Geneva took a slight 34-32 lead into the halftime and was able to stretch the lead to as many as 12 points midway through the second half. LaRoche was led by a pair of 20 point scorers in Chloe Stewart (21 pts) and Jaquaylla Kessler (20 pts).

The Golden Tornadoes will play their third game in four days on Tuesday night when they open the home portion of their schedule with a 7 pm tip-off against Pitt-Greensburg.
