GENEVA COMES UP SHORT IN FIRST

ROAD TEST OF NEW SEASON

Beaver Falls, PA -After opening the new season over the weekend at its own Tip-Off Tournament, Geneva′s men′s basketball team took to the road for the first time on Tuesday night and was unable to pass its first road test. The Golden Tornadoes dropped a 73-70 decision to LaRoche College and fell to 1-2 on the young season.

Geneva′s starting line-up accounted for 62 of the 70 points on Tuesday night. Richard Colick, who posted a career high 34 points on Saturday night, put up 25 points on Tuesday to go along with a team best 14 rebounds.

The Golden Tornadoes took a 37-32 lead into the locker room, but were unable to hold off the Redhawks in the second half. Bryan Hill was the only other Geneva player to reach double figures with 11 points, including 3-6 shooting from three-point range. Justin Nardi, who was playing his first game of the season, shot just 2-10 from the field and scored eight points.

LaRoche was led by three players in double figures. Zach Kostorick led the way with 18 points to pace the victory.

Geneva managed just ten second half field goals and shot 44% from the field in the final 20 minutes. The Golden Tornadoes were hamstrung all night by turnovers. Geneva finished the game with 19 turnovers, including three costly giveaways in the final minutes. "You simply can′t turn the ball over that many times on the road and expect to win," said head coach Jeff Santarsiero. "We had our chances, but we have to do a better job in protecting the basketball and eliminating empty trips."

Geneva will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Hiram College at Metheny Fieldhouse beginning at 3 pm.
