HIRAM SENDS GENEVA TO THIRD STRAIGHT LOSS

Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva head coach needed his team to give a better effort on the defensive end of the floor coming into Saturday′s contest against Hiram College. At the end of the day, the Golden Tornadoes allowed 88 points in an 88-84 loss to Hiram that dropped Geneva′s record to 1-3. "We have to simply give a better effort on the defensive end of the floor," said Santarsiero. "We need to show more intensity and if we don′t get better it is going to be a long year."

The Golden Tornadoes were looking to get back into the win column after back to back losses, but Saturday′s setback pushed the losing streak to three straight games. "We have very difficult stretch of games coming up to start conference play and we better pick things up quickly."

Hiram led by as many as seven points in the first half, but it was the Golden Tornadoes who took a 41-37 lead into the locker room. For the second straight game, Geneva could not hold a second half lead as Hiram quickly came back and led by as many as eight points midway through the second half. The Golden Tornadoes had a chance to take back the lead with less than three minutes left in regulation but could not convert from the foul line.

After Hiram split a pair of free throws in the final seconds, Rich Colick pulled down a defensive rebound and Geneva had a chance down by only three points. Colick turned had the ball stripped away and the Terriers were able to ice the game away from the foul line.

Foul shots were a continuing theme throughout the game as both teams attempted a combined 64 free throws. Hiram was 30-41 from the foul line, including 22-30 in the final 20 minutes. Chris Roberts scored 17 of his team leading 22 points in the second half to lead the way for the Terriers. Hiram also got 18 points from Ian Pfouts.

Colick led Geneva for the third straight game as the junior posted 22 points and seven rebounds. Bryan Hill was 5-10 from three point range and finished the game with 15 points. Brandon Harvey scored 12 points off the bench for the Golden Tornadoes.

Geneva will open PAC play next Wednesday at Grove City before traveling to Washington & Jefferson next Saturday. The Golden Tornadoes will return home on December 13th to battle defending PAC champion Bethany College.
