Alpha Chi logoA total of 24 upperclassmen from Geneva College were inducted into the Pennsylvania Lambda Chapter of Alpha Chi, a national honor society that celebrates academic excellence and exemplary character among college students. The induction ceremony took place on Wednesday, Nov. 5 in the John H. White chapel on Geneva′s campus in Beaver Falls, Pa.

Formed in 1922, Alpha Chi is a co-educational general honors society that admits students from all academic disciplines. The local Lambda chapter inducts juniors and seniors of good character who have achieved a GPA within the top 10% of their class. Alpha Chi's name is formed from the initial letters of the Greek words ALETHEIA, meaning “truth,” and XAPAKTHP, meaning “character.” The organization′s motto, “You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free,” is taken from John 8:32

Dr. Andrea J. Smidt-Sittema, professor of history and assistant sponsor for the chapter, sees value in the college′s participation in the honor organization. “Taking advantage of the events, conferences, competitions, and other areas of focus that the national organization promotes, our students will have the opportunity to use what they are learning at Geneva and see how it can be integrated into a larger, national community,” she says.

This year′s inductees were: Donald A. Askey, Lynette Faith Buzzanca, Andrew Douglas Crawford, David M. Dinsmore, Joshua Levi Falk, Elizabeth Ann Fisher, Hilary Abigail Gamble, Theresa M. Gazo, Melissa Gutherie, Elizabeth Ruth Hoffman, Bethany Emelia Klingler, Angelica M. Mazzarini, Sandra Lynn Moller, Shannon Nicole Monac, Amanda Rae Munsch, Christian James Rafetto, Kara Dawn Retzer, Jacqueline Adaire Robel, Andrea Lynn Rubin, Kirsten Elizabeth Shaw, Ashley M. Shea, Abaigeal Smith, Melissa Sharon Wagner and Michelle F. Zimmovan.
