OVERTIME THRILLER ENDS IN DEFEAT AT GROVE CITY

Grove City, PA - It was the 151st edition of the Geneva-Grove City rivalry on Wednesday night and much like many in the past went down to the wire. In fact, it took overtime to decide a winner. Grove City won for the fourth straight time and Geneva dropped its fourth straight in a 68-64 decision. Geneva fell to 1-4 on the season and saw a second half lead disappear for the third consecutive game.

Geneva took a 32-25 lead into the locker room and quickly extended the lead with the first seven points of the second half to extend to a game high 14 point advantage. Grove City responded midway through the half with a 15-2 run of its own to claim a one-point lead with just under ten minutes to play. Bryan Hill′s three point field goal with 3:09 left in regulation gave Geneva a 55-50 lead, but Grove City battled back again. The Wolverines were finally able to draw even when Ryan Gibson knocked down a short jump shot with 4.8 seconds remaining in regulation. Bryce Salomone′s desperation three-pointer from 35 feet fell short and the game headed to overtime.

After a Justin Nardi three-pointer gave Geneva the lead in overtime, Grove City outscored the Golden Tornadoes 11-4 the rest of the way. "We certainly have something to build on tonight," said head coach Jeff Santarsiero. "The effort tonight was much better. We put ourselves in a position to be a very good team on the road and just could not close the deal. I think late in the game we played not to lose, instead of playing to win."

Geneva was led by Nardi′s 14 points. The Golden Tornadoes also got double figure efforts from Dave Phillips (12), Bryan Hill (12) and Rich Colick (10). Lambros Svingos scored six points and led the way with 13 rebounds.

Geneva will look to get into the win column on Saturday afternoon against Washington & Jefferson. The Golden Tornadoes return home against Bethany on December 13th.
