LOSING STEAK HITS FIVE AT W & J

Washington, PA - Geneva was looking to get back into the win column on Saturday but the Golden Tornadoes were unable to stop their losing streak as it reached five games following an 80-66 loss to Washington & Jefferson. The loss dropped Geneva to 1-5 while the President′s improved to 5-3.

Washington & Jefferson controlled play throughout the first half and extended its lead to as many as 19 points and took a 45-30 lead into the locker room. The Golden Tornadoes were able to get within nine points at the 15:40 mark of the second half but W & J responded by quickly getting the game back into double digits.

"We played our worst half of basketball to start the game and could not recover," said head coach Jeff Santarsiero. "You can′t spot a good team 15 points and expect to come back on the road. I was hoping our effort against Grove City would lead to a solid performance today, but W & J took it to us pretty good all day."

Rich Colick, who entered the game as Geneva′s leading scorer, continued his good work leading the Golden Tornadoes with 19 points on 8-14 shooting for the game. Bryan Hill scored all of his 13 points in the second half, including a pair of three-point field goals. Justin Nardi posted 10 of his 12 points in the second half as Geneva managed just nine field goals in the first half.

W & J burned up the nets in the first half by shooting 54% from the field as a team, including 4-7 from three-point range. The President′s got 22 points from Albert Varacallo and 16 from Wahab Owolabi.

Geneva will have just one more chance to break its losing streak before the Christmas holiday. The Golden Tornadoes will welcome Bethany College to Metheny Fieldhouse next Saturday before a three week lay-off.
