HEROICS BY RICH NOT ENOUGH AGAINST BETHANY

Beaver Falls, PA - Michawn Rich had a plan for the Geneva women′s basketball team on Saturday night, but the senior was unable to fulfill the final outcome as the Golden Tornadoes dropped a 65-55 decision to Bethany College. The loss was Geneva′s third straight as the Golden Tornadoes fell to 3-4 on the season.

Despite the heroics of Rich that saw her score a career high 31 points and pull down a career best 19 rebounds, Geneva was unable to overcome a slow start that saw them fall behind 21-3 in the first six minutes of the game.

Trailing by 18, Rich decided to take things into her own hands and when she drove to the basket for a lay-up as time expired in the first half, she had brought her team back to within three points at 33-30. Rich scored 20 points in the first half and single handedly kept her team alive.

Geneva pulled to within two points on a couple of occasions in the second half, but was never able to capture the lead. Beth DeLuca provided the Golden Tornadoes with an offensive spark as she was making her first collegiate start. DeLuca made a pair of three-point field goals and finished with a season high 14 points.

Bethany enjoyed a balanced attack led by Kelly Goode′s 16 points. Renee Brandenburg posted 13 points and Kaitlyn McCormick added 12 for a Bethany team that moved to 3-6 including back to back victories for the first time all season.

The Golden Tornadoes will look to regroup with 17 days before their next game. Geneva will come back after the Christmas holiday to face Carlow on the road on December 30th. Geneva will play at Saint Vincent on January 3rd before returning home against Fredonia on January 5th.
