REST DOES GENEVA WELL, G-T′s ROLL PAST CARLOW

Pittsburgh, PA - Geneva′s women′s basketball team took a three-game losing streak into the Christmas holiday, but it appears the 16 day lay-off has done the Golden Tornadoes well. Geneva cruised to an 86-62 victory over Carlow University on Tuesday night to put an abrupt end to the losing streak. Geneva moved to 4-4 on the season in its final game of 2008. The victory was the second against Carlow this season as the Golden Tornadoes defeated the Celtics in the season opener back in November.

Geneva used a balanced offensive attack with six players finishing in double figures. Val Hamilton led the offensive charge with 15 points while Christine Carugati added 13 and Michawn Rich chipped in with 12 points in the victory. Geneva opened up a 51-31 lead at the half and cruised to the victory in the second half. The Golden Tornadoes shot 54% from the field, including 7-13 from three-point range. "We were able to score the basketball," said interim head coach Amy Russin. "I was mostly pleased with our defensive effort and how we were able to play well on both ends of the floor. We needed a victory to gain some momentum."

While Geneva put an end to its three game losing streak and moved to 4-4, Carlow is still in search of its first victory of the season as it fell to 0-12 with Tuesday′s loss.

The Golden Tornadoes will get back into PAC action on Saturday night when they travel to Saint Vincent. Geneva returns home on January 10th to host Waynesburg.
