Business After Hours eventLocal business leaders gathered on Geneva′s campus on Nov. 19 for the Beaver County Chamber of Commerce′s Business After Hours event. Held monthly by different sponsors, the Business After Hours events promote conversation and local businesses.

“Beaver County business is a resource for Geneva College, and Geneva College is a resource for the Beaver County business community,” President Kenneth A. Smith said to the gathered crowded, noting the vigorous chatter as a positive sign. “Hopefully by the end of the evening we'll have a better appreciation for what we do for each other, and how we can work together in new ways.”

“The Business After Hours events give the sponsors the opportunity to open their doors to other business,” says Rose Mary Fix, Beaver County Chamber of Commerce director of finance. “And it gives members of the chamber the opportunity to see the benefits of a relationship.”

“Geneva trains business leaders for Beaver County,” Smith said. “In Geneva′s traditional undergraduate business program, we blend a solid liberal arts education with real-life business applications.” Smith mentioned several additional ways in which Geneva could aid the local business community, including the college′s Christ-centered Degree Completion Program and graduate programs in both business administration and organizational leadership. Smith also spoke briefly about how Geneva′s career development office could help connect students with business.

Vice President of Institutional Advancement Kevin Jean pointed out some of the recent changes on campus, from the Beyond the Bend campus renovations to the improvements to the athletic facilities. Jean told the gathered crowd that “Geneva now brings 85,000 visitors to Beaver County each year. Are you taking advantage of that influx of visitors? Can you? It′s something to think about.”
