SECOND HALF COLLAPSE, GROVE CITY CONTROLS
GENEVA 57-43

Beaver Falls, PA - On a night that Geneva College welcomed back its women basketball teams from the past for its annual alumni game, the Golden Tornadoes and Grove City College Wolverines hooked up in an old fashioned defensive struggle. The Golden Tornadoes ultimately dropped a 57-43 decision to Grove City to fall back to the 8-8 mark for the season. Grove City, which swept the season series from Geneva, improved to 7-10 with the victory.

Geneva took a 23-20 lead into the halftime break. Both teams managed just seven first half field goals, but it was Grove City′s defense that stymied Geneva in the final stanza by suffocating the Golden Tornadoes′ offense and holding Geneva to just 20 second half points and only six field goals. Grove City out scored Geneva by 17 points in the final 20 minutes, which proved to be the difference.

Rachel Barry led Geneva with 15 points on 3-4 shooting from the field and a 9-10 effort from the foul line. Christine Carugati added ten points in the loss. Geneva shot just 36% from the field and committed a season high 31 turnovers. The Wolverines shot just 40% from the field but were led by Megan Gabrosky′s three treys in the final half. Gabrosky finished with a team best 15 points while teammate Christine Slater scored 13 points in the victory.

Geneva will complete its three game home stand on Wednesday night when the welcome co-PAC leader Washington & Jefferson to Metheny Fieldhouse.
