Martin Luther King Jr.BEAVER FALLS, Pa. - In remembrance of the inspiring life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Geneva College will host several events that are free and open to the public beginning Monday, Jan. 19.

On Monday, Jan. 19, Geneva College will show portions of the award-winning documentary Eyes on the Prize as part of a "Lunch & Learn" opportunity. The program, which focuses on Dr. King and his role in the civil rights movement, will be held in room 013 of Northwood Hall, from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, Jan. 20, the Geneva College campus community will welcome Coach Herman Boone. Boone and his experiences as coach of the T.C. Williams High School football team were the basis of the popular movie Remember the Titans. He will speak on the theme of "Unity in Diversity," drawing from his life and from the movie. The event will be held at 7 p.m. in the college's Metheny Fieldhouse.

Earlier on Tuesday, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the college community will gather to witness a historical event, the inauguration of the nation's first African-American president, Barack Obama. The ceremony will be shown on the large-screen televisions located in the Brigadoon of the Student Center.

Finally, on Friday, Jan. 23, Geneva will close out the week with a panel discussion between students and staff. Dialogue will focus on the question of whether the dream is being fulfilled or not. All are invited to participate in Geneva's Skye Lounge at 10:10 a.m.

Geneva College also encourages the community to attend a luncheon held by Christians United in Beaver County on Friday, Jan. 16 at the Park Presbyterian Church in Beaver, Pa. from noon to 1 p.m. There will be a free lunch served prior to a musical performance by Geneva College senior Amanda Weathers and a message by Rev. Bernard Tench of 2nd Baptist Church in Beaver Falls. There will also be an offering for the United Negro College Fund.
