SAINTS COME MARCHING IN, TRAMPLE OVER GENEVA

Crestview Hills, KY - Geneva College′s men′s basketball team got caught in a Kentucky storm on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Tornadoes were facing the hottest team and the newly crowned champions of the Presidents′ Athletic Conference. Thomas More continued its hot play with a 90-66 victory over the Golden Tornadoes winning its 13th game in the last 15 and improving to 17-7 on the season. Geneva fell to 6-16 on the year and put an end to its three-game road winning streak.

Geneva College′s undoing came as a result of two huge runs by Thomas More that proved to be the difference. Trailing by only three points at 13-10 six and a half minutes into the game, the Saints ran off a 22-9 stretch to extend the lead to 35-19 at the 7:26 mark of the first half. Thomas More took a 52-34 lead into the locker room. The Golden Tornadoes tried to make a game of it cutting the lead to just 11 points on a Rich Colick bucket at the 15:15 mark. Trailing 57-46, Geneva watched Thomas More score 24 of the next 30 points to open the lead to 81-52 and put the Golden Tornadoes away. "We hit a team that is playing its best basketball all season," said head coach Jeff Santarsiero. "They are clicking on all cylinders and we just didn′t have any defensive answers."

Offensively, Geneva′s Rich Colick paced the attack with 18 points and nine rebounds in the loss. Dave Phillips knocked in three treys and finished with 13 points. Thomas More featured four players in double figures in a very well balanced attack.

Geneva shot just 39% for the game and only 4-24 from outside the three-point arc. Conversely, Thomas More shot 47% in the victory.

The Golden Tornadoes will close out the season with three games next week. Geneva will host Penn State Beaver on Monday before welcoming Thiel on Wednesday for the home finale. The Golden Tornadoes travel to Westminster next Saturday for the season finale.
