The choir, established in its present form in 1938, is on a tour of the Southeastern United States and will perform twelve concerts at schools and churches in six states. The choir sings a wide variety of music styles, from the Renaissance to contemporary, from folk songs to Spirituals and anthems. The theme song for this concert is “Mourning into Dancing” by the contemporary Christian composer James Ward of Chattanooga. The concert will include motets from Victoria′s “Lamentations of Jeremiah” and the beloved “Super flumina Babylonis” of Palestrina. Also featured will be music by two great composers with special anniversaries this year: Felix Mendelssohn (b. 1809) and Henry Purcell (b. 1659). Rounding out the program are folk song settings by Johannes Brahms and humorous works by Mozart and others.

Two small groups from within the choir will also sing: Grace Notes (women′s sextet) and Eight Bells (barbershop).

In addition to many concerts in western Pennsylvania, the Genevans tour annually in parts of North America and quadrennially in Europe. Their most recent international tour, in 2006, took the group to Ireland and the United Kingdom. Previous tours have taken the Genevans to France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Poland and Cyprus, earning them ovations and return invitations.
