Amy Pearce

Beaver Falls, PA – In the inaugural issue of Division III Softball, the Newsletter, Geneva College senior catcher Amy Pearce (Hackettstown, NJ) was selected as a first team pre-season All-American. Pearce was among only 14 players selected to the first team across the country and the only player within the Presidents′ Athletic Conference to be chosen.

Pearce leads a class of five seniors into Geneva College′s 2009 softball campaign. The Golden Tornadoes are coming off a 29-13 season from a year ago and a three year run that has seen the program collect a record 93 victories. The senior catcher is one of the main reasons for Geneva College′s recent success on the diamond with her record breaking offensive numbers.

A year ago, Pearce batted .444 with a school record 12 home runs and 51 RBI′s. She has already eclipsed the career record for RBI′s with 111 and sits just two homers shy of tying the record mark of 23. She is hitting .393 during her three-year career, which also ranks her at the top of the Geneva College record books.

“This is a staggering accomplishment,” said head coach Van Zanic. “She is in such great company with players from some of the top programs in the country. It is a credit to her hard work during the past three years and a credit to where our program has gone during this recent stretch of success. This should be enjoyed by the entire softball program.”

The Golden Tornadoes begin their 2009 run with a ten game stretch in Kissimmee, FL beginning with games against Transylvania, KY and Webster, MO on March 9.
