LATE RALLY GAINS DAY TWO SPLIT

Kissimmee, FL - The Geneva College softball team went 12 innings on Tuesday with scoring a run, but in the final two innings of the day, the Golden Tornadoes took advantage of some defensive miscues and rallied for its second doubleheader split in as many days. Game one saw Geneva College drop a 3-0 decision to Mt. Union College. The Golden Tornadoes rallied for three runs in the final two innings of a 3-2 victory over Wittenberg. The split was Geneva′s second in as many days as the Golden Tornadoes evened their record at 2-2.

Geneva could not muster much offense against a very good Mt. Union team in game one on Tuesday. The Golden Tornadoes managed only four hits in a 3-0 loss. Ashley Archer suffered the hard luck loss in allowing three earned runs in seven innings of work. Mt. Union tallied two runs in the first and added an insurance run in the fifth. Lexi Svingos picked up a single and a double but it wasn′t enough to help Geneva light up the scoreboard.

Game two was going along much like game one with the Golden Tornadoes trailing 2-0 heading into the 6th inning. Rebekah Wahl pitched six innings and allowed just four hits, but did not figure in on the decision. Ashley Archer was the benefactor on the mound as Geneva rallied for three runs in the final two innings. Archer pitched a scoreless seventh to pick up her second victory of the day. Michawn Rich tied the game with a two-out, two-run single in the sixth. Geneva won the game in the bottom of the seventh when Amy Pearce scored on a throwing error from the catcher. Geneva had six hits in the night cap including two each from Leanne Abate and Lyndsay Piette.

The Golden Tornadoes will continue their spring trip on Wednesday with games against Beloit College and Trine University.
