WIN STREAK HITS SEVEN WITH DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP OVER CONFERENCE FOE

Ft. Pierce, FL - Geneva and Bethany, a pair of PAC foes, went all the way to Ft. Pierce, FL to meet in a conference doubleheader. The Golden Tornadoes continued to roll with their sixth and seventh consecutive victories by scores of 14-1 and 6-5. The doubleheader sweep moved Geneva′s overall record to 8-2.

Geneva cruised to a 14-1 victory in game one behind a balanced offensive attack and a solid pitching performance from Derek Sumner. Sumner went the distance and struck out ten in the victory. The offense exploded with every starter getting at least one hit. Geneva spotted Bethany a run in the first inning before rallying for 14 unanswered runs. The offense got going with a go-ahead solo homer from Justin Acosta. Acosta struck again one inning later with an RBI single. Geneva took a 5-1 lead into the fifth inning before breaking the game open with nine more runs over the next three innings.

Game two did not come so easy for the Golden Tornadoes. Nick Phillips made his first start in two years after coming back from arm surgery. He went 5 2/3 innings and allowed four hits and one earned run to pick up the victory. Mike Trn closed out the game to pick up his second save of the trip. Trailing by a run in the fifth, Derek Sumner connected on a grand slam to give Geneva a lead it would not relinquish. Bethany made a late run with a three spot in the seventh, but Geneva was able to close out the game for their seventh victory in a row.

Geneva will meet Bethany in a single, nine-inning game on Monday. Geneva′s game against Grinnell on Monday has been cancelled. The Golden Tornadoes will return home next week for their home opener against Penn State Beaver on Friday.
