Pittsburgh, PA - Geneva′s softball team opened the northern portion of its schedule on Thursday and had to work overtime to complete a doubleheader sweep over LaRoche College. The Golden Tornadoes prevailed by scores of 6-3 and 5-0. The sweep moved Geneva′s overall record to 6-6. Game one did not come easy for the Golden Tornadoes as they trailed for most of the game. Trailing 3-1 heading into the seventh inning, Geneva put together a rally to draw even.

Adriane Blake provided the only offense for Geneva in the first six innings with a second inning RBI base hit to tie the score at one. LaRoche posted single runs in the third and fifth inning to take a two-run lead into the seventh. Lexi Svingos provided a run scoring base hit to pull Geneva to within a run and then Kim Slater tied the game with a two-out base hit of her own. In the eighth inning, Michawn Rich provided the go-ahead single before an RBI base hit from Amy Pearce gave Geneva some added insurance. Ashley Archer tossed all eight innings for her fourth victory of the season. She allowed two earned runs on just four hits. She did not allow a base hit in the final five innings. She struck out ten and walked only two in the victory. Adriane Blake and Lyndsay Piette had three hits each in Geneva′s 12 hit attack in game one.

Game two was dominated by the pitching of Rebekah Wahl. Wahl recorded her first victory of the season with a complete game shut-out. She allowed three hits and struck out six in the win. Geneva′s offense got going with three runs in the first inning. Amy Pearce provided a two-run single followed by a run scoring hit from Lexi Svingos. Kim Slater picked up an RBI double in the second and Samantha Michetti picked up an RBI on a groundout in her first collegiate at bat in the sixth inning. Slater and Pearce had two hits each as part of Geneva′s seven hit game two.

The Golden Tornadoes will open their home schedule on Saturday when they welcome Penn State Greater Allegheny in the first of three consecutive home dates.
