Win Streak Reaches Six with Sweep of PS Beaver

Beaver Falls, PA - It has been a perfect start to the northern portion of the schedule for the Geneva College softball team. On Tuesday, the Golden Tornadoes moved their winning streak to six games with a pair of wins over Penn State Beaver by scores of 6-2 and 8-1. The doubleheader sweep moved Geneva′s overall record to 10-6.

Martha Adams got the Golden Tornadoes going early with a lead-off home run in the bottom of the first of game one. An unearned run in the second inning extended the lead and then the Golden Tornadoes opened up the game with a three run third inning. Lexi Svingos plated a pair of runs with a two-run double and then scored herself on an RBI single from Lyndsay Piette. Piette and Adriane Blake had two hits each in game one to pace an offense that featured six hits. Ashley Archer went the distance for her fifth victory of the season. Archer allowed two earned runs on four hits. She struck out eight and walked two in the win.

Rebekah Wahl won for the second time this spring with a solid five inning outing. She allowed one earned run on just three hits. Wahl struck out three batters on her way to a 2-3 overall mark so far this season. Julie DiLonardo tossed a pair of scoreless innings to close out the game. Geneva′s offense got going early with five runs in the first inning. After three consecutive singles to start game, Amy Pearce delivered a bases clearing double to put Geneva up 3-0. Pearce later delivered her second homer of the season to extend Geneva′s lead. Pearce′s two-run shot in the fourth inning was her 23rd career homer that tied Geneva′s career mark. Kara Zimmerman later delivered an RBI single to give Geneva its 8-1 lead. Pearce and Blake finished with two hits each in game two with Pearce finishing game two with five RBI′s.

Geneva will look to continue its roll on Wednesday with another non-conference doubleheader against Carlow University. The Golden Tornadoes open PAC play on Saturday at Grove City College.
