GROVE CITY SEVENTH INNING RALLY ENDS WIN STREAK

Grove City, PA - Geneva′s softball team came into its doubleheader with Grove City having not lost a game in its northern portion of the schedule. In fact, the Golden Tornadoes had won six straight heading into Friday′s twin bill. Geneva was three outs away from a doubleheader sweep and an eight game winning streak, but Grove City snatched away Geneva′s game two win with a three run seventh inning and a 4-3 victory. The Golden Tornadoes took game one by the score of 3-2. The doubleheader split moved Geneva′s overall record to 11-7.

Game one came down to the wire, but it started as if Geneva would run away and hide. The Golden Tornadoes got four consecutive singles to start the game including an RBI base hit from Amy Pearce, but Geneva managed just one run in the first frame. After the Wolverines tied the game with a run in the second, the Golden Tornadoes got single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Pearce knocked in another run with a base hit and Sam Bautista got the eventual game winner with an RBI ground out. Grove City scored one in the seventh and loaded the bases before Geneva shut down the rally. Ashley Archer pitched 6 1/3 to get her sixth victory of the season. Rebekah Wahl converted her second save of the season by getting the final two outs. Geneva had 11 hits in game one including three from Adriane Blake and two each from Martha Adams, Kim Slater and Amy Pearce.

While Geneva was able to shut down Grove City′s seventh inning rally in game one, it was unable to do the same in the night cap. Taking a 3-1 lead into the seventh, Geneva allowed the Wolverines three runs to take a 4-3 lead. Geneva could not answer despite loading the bases in the bottom of the seventh. Rebekah Wahl took the loss after seven innings of work and two earned runs. Michawn Rich provided an RBI single in the first and Adriane Blake launched her first homer of the season in the third inning.

The Golden Tornadoes return home for three doubleheaders next week against Bethany on Tuesday, Thomas More on Friday and Thiel on Saturday.
