SEVEN UNANSWERED ERASES EARLY GENEVA LEAD

Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva had things going its way in Saturday′s rubber match against Thomas More before the Saints erased a five-run lead with seven unanswered runs and a 7-6 decision over the Golden Tornadoes. Geneva opened the game with a run in the first on an RBI single from Joe Jurinko and then quickly extended the lead with four more tallies over the next two innings. Justin Acosta′s RBI triple in the second and Tadd Eyster′s run scoring single extended the lead to 3-0 in the second inning.

Geneva got two more in the third before Thomas More got its offense on track. Geneva starter Chris Slick put together three scoreless innings, but the fourth inning proved to be the downfall. A grand slam in the fourth brought the Saints to within a run and two batters later Thomas More had tied the game at five each. The Saints plated two more runs in the fifth to take their first lead of the game.

Trailing by two, Joel Gatti tried to bring Geneva back with a solo homer in the seventh but it proved to be too little, too late. The loss handed Thomas More the 2-1 advantage in the weekend series after the two teams split a doubleheader on Friday. Geneva fell to 13-6 overall while 29th ranked Thomas More won for the 12th time in 13 games and improved to 12-1-1 on the year.

Tadd Eyster and Joe Jurinko had two hit each to pace the Golden Tornadoes offense. Dylan Viehdorfer was saddled with the loss in relief, but Matt Baer certainly did his job with four innings of scoreless relief.

Geneva will host Washington & Jefferson in a single, nine-inning game on Wednesday before the battle Saint Vincent in a three-game series next weekend.
