Now more than ever, students and their families are concerned about the affordability of higher education. Many face lay-offs, pay cuts, and other financial challenges, and feel that private Christian colleges may be outside of their price range. But while state-related universities are generally perceived to have a lower price tag, institutions like Geneva College can be equally affordable.

“Students and parents want to know that they're getting the very best they can for their dollar,” says Director of Financial Aid Steve Bell. “For Geneva College, that means making Christian education as affordable as possible, while providing a faith-building, life-changing college experience.”

Nearly 95 percent of Geneva College students qualify for some type of financial assistance. While the sticker price of tuition is $21,400, a typical student could receive $8,000 or more in institutional grants and scholarships. These funds are awarded directly from the college and lower the actual net price to $13,000, an amount comparable to the in-state tuition offered at state-related universities.

In 2008-09, Geneva College gave over $9,000,000 in institutional aid and distributed approximately $13,000,000 in federal, state and private grants and loans. The college also works directly with students to help them explore loan options, payment plans, and scholarship opportunities through their church, city and county. “Small scholarships add up quickly,” Bell says. “It′s amazing how much students can save, and we are always here to help them research their options.”

“Finances were a big deal for our family,” says freshman psychology major Jessica Rienow. “I got a scholarship from my dad′s employer, so I could have gone to a community college for free. But I wanted to learn in a place where I could share my faith. And since I'm going into family and children′s counseling, I wanted a spiritual foundation for the principles I'm learning.” Jessica applied to several Christian schools, and Geneva College offered her the best financial aid package.

Because higher education is a long-term investment, the ultimate question families must ask is which college offers the best value or return? “We are committed to making education worthwhile for every student,” says Geneva College President Kenneth A. Smith. “After four years of learning to ask the tough questions while connecting Christian faith to life on a deeper level, Geneva College graduates are ready for a lifetime of growth, leadership, and service.”
