GAME TWO COMEBACK SAVES SPLIT AGAINST FORMER AMC FOE

Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva and Point Park have been hooking up for years as members of the NAIA. On Monday the former AMC foes split a softball doubleheader with both teams coming away with one victory. The Pioneers took game one 7-3 with the Golden Tornadoes coming back for a 5-3 victory in the night cap. The split moved Geneva to 17-11 while Point Park moved to 18-8.

The Pioneers came out of the box with bats blazing in game one. Point Park posted four runs in the second inning on six hits and added another run in the third on a solo homer. Ashley Archer was saddled with the loss after only three innings of work. Freshman Ariel Lilly pitched the final four innings and allowed two unearned runs on five hits. Lilly struck out five in her four innings of relief. The Golden Tornadoes tried to get back in the game as they cut a 6-0 lead in half with three runs in the fifth inning. A two-run single from Adriane Blake was followed by an RBI base hit from Amy Pearce. Geneva managed six hits including a pair of doubles from red hot Michawn Rich.

Rebekah Wahl pitched a complete game victory in game two and allowed three runs on just five hits. A three-run homer in the sixth inning was the only real mistake Wahl made all game. She struck out seven in picking up her fifth victory of the season. With the game scoreless heading into the third, Sarah Arata drew a one-out walk and Sam Bautista followed with her first collegiate home run to take a 2-0 lead. The Pioneers answered with a three-run homer in the sixth to take back a short lived lead. Geneva came right back with three runs of its own in the bottom of the sixth. A two-run double off the bat of Lyndsay Piette gave Geneva the lead and Leanne Abate followed with an RBI single to give the Golden Tornadoes some offensive insurance. Bautista had two hits to pace a seven hit attack in game two.

Geneva′s doubleheader with Walsh on Wednesday has already been cancelled which will keep the Golden Tornadoes off the field until they host Thomas More on Friday at 3 pm.
