PITCHING RULES THE DAY AS GENEVA AND THOMAS MORE EXCHANGE SHUT-OUTS
Beaver Falls, PA - It was Ashley Archer for Geneva and Dana Bors for Thomas More that dominated the day in a doubleheader split at Geneva College. Archer hurled a three-hit shut-out in a 7-0 victory in game one and Bors followed suit with a two-hit gem in a 3-0 victory in the night cap. Archer picked up career win number 51 which tied the Geneva career record for pitching victories. With the split, the Golden Tornadoes moved to 20-12 on the season while Thomas More went to 24-8.
Archer went seven innings and allowed just three hits. She struck out nine in moving to 10-6 in the circle for the season. The Golden Tornadoes jumped on top quickly with three runs in the bottom of the first. Adriane Blake connected on a run scoring single and Lyndsay Piette capped the inning with an RBI ground out. The score stayed 3-0 until the Golden Tornadoes struck for four runs in the sixth inning. Lexi Svingos opened the inning with her second home run of the season. Michawn Rich delivered an RBI single and Amy Pearce finished the scoring with a two-run base hit. The Golden Tornadoes banged out 12 hits in game one including three knocks from Adriane Blake. Martha Adams, Amy Pearce and Lexi Svingos each had two hits.
Geneva used up all its offense in game one and had just two hits in the night cap. Dana Bors pitched a complete game shut-out while striking out ten in the victory. A two-run homer in the first and a solo homer in the third was all the scoring the Saints would need in game two. Rich and Pearce provided base hits for the only offense in game two.
Geneva travels to Chatham University on Saturday for another PAC doubleheader scheduled to begin at 1 pm.
