EARLY LEAD DISAPPEARS AS GENEVA FALLS TO THIEL 11-8

Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva′s offense showed up again on Friday and pounded out 14 hits but it wasn′t enough in an 11-8 loss to Thiel College. The Golden Tornadoes fell to 20-11 on the season after watching an early lead disappear against the Tomcats.

The Golden Tornadoes got off to a good start on Friday with three runs in the first inning. Derek Sumner supplied an RBI single and Joel Gatti followed with a two-run double. Geneva opened up a 4-0 lead before the Tomcats found their offense in the fourth inning. Dylan Viehdorfer cruised through three scoreless innings before surrendering a six-spot to Thiel in the fourth. Viehdorfer lasted six innings and allowed 12 hits and seven earned runs.

After Thiel took the lead, Geneva bounced back to regain control with three runs in the fifth inning. Andy Lubich and Justin McGurgan provided back to back doubles to get Geneva back on top. Thiel took back the lead with four more runs in the seventh inning and never looked back.

Derek Sumner, Joel Gatti and Justin McGurgan led the offense with three hits each. Gatti led off the ninth with a double and came around to score to get Geneva back to within three runs but the Golden Tornadoes could not get any closer.

Geneva will look for some revenge on Saturday as it travels to Greenville for a doubleheader with Thiel beginning at 1 pm.
