OUT WITH A BANG, SOFTBALL SENIORS WIN TWO IN SEASON FINALE, ARCHER
SETS NEW STRIKEOUT MARK IN THE PROCESS

Beaver Falls, PA - It was a bitter sweet day for six senior softball players at Geneva College on Wednesday. The senior class of 2009 said good-bye in their final doubleheader in Golden Tornadoes′ uniforms and they did it in style with a pair of victories. Geneva defeated Saint Vincent by the scores of 8-0 and 9-4 to close out the 2009 season with an overall record of 25-15.

Game one featured a solid offensive attack paired with a dominant pitching performance from Rebekah Wahl, who will also be leaving Geneva at the end of the year. Wahl pitched 4 2/3 scoreless innings before turning the game over to Ariel Lilly, who retired the final batter of the game. Geneva needed only five innings to take care of things because of the mercy rule. Wahl stuck out six and allowed only two hits in picking up her eighth victory of the season.

The offense picked up eight hits in the game one victory. Amy Pearce continued her assault on the record book with an RBI single in the first inning. The Golden Tornadoes opened up the game with four runs in the fourth inning. Back to back RBI′s from Sam Bautista and Adriane Blake highlighted the four-run outburst.

Game two was highlighted by the record setting performance from senior hurler Ashley Archer. In 6 1/3 innings of work, Archer struck out 12 batters and in the process became the all-time Geneva College strikeout leader. Archer came into the game ten strikeouts shy of the record and she finished her work with a career best 483 punch outs. She won for the 13th time this year in allowing two earned runs on two hits.

The offense banged out 14 hits in the night cap led by a perfect 4-4 performance from Blake. Bautista launched a pair of home runs and Pearce hit her career record 27th home run. Lyndsay Piette and Adrienne Hays each chipped in with a pair of hits in the night cap.

Seniors Ashley Archer, Amy Pearce, Michawn Rich, Stephanie Wagle, Adrienne Hays and Kim Slater finished their careers on Wednesday combining for more victories than any other senior class in school history.
