The Genevans

The acclaimed mixed choir of Geneva College, The Genevans, will perform in two separate events at the First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh on Sunday, April 26, 2009. The first performance will be at the 10:45 a.m. worship service and the second will be a 2:00 p.m. concert.

The 10:45 a.m. worship service is free and open to the public. The Genevans will sing two psalms during the service.

The 2 p.m. concert will include a wide variety of music styles, from the Renaissance to contemporary, from folk songs to Spirituals and anthems. Admission will be $15.

The First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh is located at 320 Sixth Avenue in downtown Pittsburgh. Now 235 years old, First Presbyterian is an established tradition in Pittsburgh and has had four separate home buildings since its founding.

The Genevans, the student choir of Geneva College, is heir to a tradition of choral singing dating from the early years of the college over 160 ago. The mission of the choir expresses Geneva′s belief that music, as one of God′s finest gifts, meets a deep, universal need in people. The choir′s repertoire is broad and varied, reflecting the belief that “all of life, always and everywhere, is life in the presence of God.”

The Genevans are directed by Dr. Robert Copeland, a Geneva alumnus who earned his M.Mus. and Ph.D. degrees from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. Prior to joining the Geneva faculty, he served in the U.S. Army and taught in Kansas for ten years.

Geneva College is a comprehensive Christian college of the arts, sciences and professional studies. Founded in the tradition of the Reformed Christian faith, Geneva prepares students to serve Christ in all areas of society: work, family and the church. Geneva is a founding member of the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU).
