Tiffany Bear wins NCCAA National Title in Javelin

Marion, IN – Do you think Tiffany Bear will remember her final collegiate track meet? The senior saved her best performance for her last meet. Slowed by a sore back, Bear was unable to compete in the heptathlon, but her back ailment didn't keep her from showing off her abilities in the javelin event. Competing on the national stage at Indiana Wesleyan University at the NCCAA national track and field meet, Bear and 11 other Geneva student-athletes represented the Golden Tornadoes.

While Geneva showed off some solid performances, it was Bear′s work in the javelin that stole the show. With a national championship throw of 140-04, Bear defeated the next closest competitor by nearly eight feet. It was Bear′s first national championship in her brilliant four-year career.

Other top performances on the women′s side included a 14th place finish in the 800 meter race and an 11th place finish in the 1500 meter event for Rebecca VanRegenmorter. Jamie Williams and Aisha Moore each turned in top ten finishes in the women′s heptathlon.

Freshman sprinter Bobby Rex concluded his memorable freshman campaign with solid performances in the 100 and 200 meter races. Rex finished 13th in the 100 meter event and then qualified for the final heat in the 200 meter event. Rex turned in a seventh place overall finish in the 200 meter finals with a time of 23:16. Teammate Stephen Polite turned in a tenth place finish with his 42-01 effort in the triple jump.

In the men′s field events, Dan Dillman competed in both the shot put and discus and came away with a pair of top ten finishes. Dillman was fifth in the shot put with a toss of 40-09 and an eighth place spot in the discus with a mark of 130-10.
