Beaver Falls, PA – There is no basketball coach in America that is more anxious for the 2009-10 season to begin than Geneva College women′s head coach Ron Galbreath. After taking last year off to recover from health concerns, Galbreath is more than ready to resume his legendary career that includes 36 years as a college head coach.
The Geneva College athletic department has announced a new assistant coach this week that will be working alongside Galbreath for the upcoming season. Erin Nietupski has been added to the Golden Tornadoes′ staff in what will be her first college coaching experience. Nietupski, who is currently a physical education teacher at Hopewell High School, joined Geneva′s staff last spring on a volunteer basis as an assistant strength and conditioning instructor and will hopefully continue in that role for the upcoming season.
“We are very fortunate to get someone of the caliber of Erin to join our program,” said Galbreath. “She has a great work ethic and has a passion for teaching, both on and off the court. I believe she will be a great asset to our program.”
Nietupski, originally from Erie, Pa, graduated from Edinboro University in 2005 with a degree in health and physical education. She continued her education at California, Pa where she completed her master′s degree in exercise science and health promotion in 2008.
Nietupski′s basketball coaching experience has been limited to youngsters up to this point and includes a stint with FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) sports camps this summer. She also served as an assistant cross country coach at Hopewell High School from 2006-08. “This is so exciting for me,” explained Nietupski. “To have the opportunity to coach and learn from such an incredible influence in Coach Galbreath is a blessing. We have very similar philosophies when it comes to coaching and teaching. I am very much looking forward to getting things started this fall.”
Nietupski has worked closely with FCA during her time at Hopewell and it was through that relationship that she ended up working at Geneva. “Leo Wisniewski (former assistant football coach) came to speak for our FCA group last winter and one thing led to another and he was able to help me get a start in fitness training last spring,” she explained. “I am very grateful for this opportunity and believe Geneva to be a place in which we can assist in developing young women in not only basketball, but in life.”
Nietupski and her husband Adam live in Moon Township and are expecting their first child in February.
