TILLMAN SENDS HOME FANS HOME HAPPY,

FIRST COLLEGIATE GOAL GETS GENEVA OT WIN

Beaver Falls, PA - Sometimes a goal can come at the most unexpected and opportune time in a soccer match. On Wednesday night, the Geneva women′s soccer team got both an unexpected an opportune goal from freshman Risa Tillman. Tillman picked the best time to collect her first collegiate goal as she intercepted a pass and fired a shot from 25 feet out that hit the crossbar and bounced into the net with three minutes remaining in the first overtime period. Tillman′s heroics sent Geneva to a 1-0 victory over LaRoche College. Both teams ended the night with 2-1 overall records as the Golden Tornadoes won for the second straight match by one goal.

Neither team had many scoring opportunities throughout the first 90 minutes as both goalkeepers kept the game scoreless during regulation. Geneva′s Lauren Londino picked up her first shut-out of the season by turning away eight shots. Londino did make one circus stop with four minutes remaining in overtime when she turned away Michelle Steele′s breakaway opportunity to keep the match scoreless.

The Golden Tornadoes also managed eight shots on goal but it was the one that eluded LaRoche keeper Raelene Zajac that made the difference in overtime.

Geneva will remain at home for its next match on Saturday afternoon when it welcomes Medaille College to Merriman Athletic Complex for a 2 pm kickoff.
