GENEVA TAKES FOURTH AT PS-BEHREND TOURNAMENT

Erie, PA – It was a full day of action for Mandee Craft and the Golden Tornadoes women′s tennis team on Saturday. Geneva College finished the day with a 1-2 record at the Penn State Behrend tournament and a fourth place finish. The 1-2 record moved Geneva′s overall mark to 2-3 on the young season.

The Golden Tornadoes opened the day with a 5-0 loss to host Penn State Behrend. Dropping all four singles matches and one doubles match, Geneva could not muster any momentum in singles play. Maura McLaughlin and Bethany Ragonesi took their opponents to the limit in doubles action before dropping an 8-6 decision.

Geneva quickly turned around its fortunes with a 5-0 victory over PAC foe Bethany College. Singles winners included Chelsea Cover (8-0), Kara Zimmerman (8-0), McLauglin (8-3) and Ragonesi (8-4). Amy Weller and Ashlyn Mallison teamed up for an 8-4 victory in doubles.

The most competitive match of the day came in a 3-2 loss to Frostburg State in the third place match. Zimmerman (8-2) and McLaughlin (8-6) picked up Geneva′s two points in singles victories.
