Crossroads - Geneva's off-campus study programOut of the 1,800 students enrolled at Geneva College for the 2009 fall semester, 35 of those students won't be with their classmates in Beaver Falls. They will be furthering their education in places like Rome, Scotland, South Korea and Jerusalem.

Crossroads, Geneva College′s off-campus study program, will be holding a Study Abroad Fair on Thursday, September 17 and Friday, September 18 for students interested in a semester of learning either overseas or in North America. Recruiters will be in the Benedum Room at both lunch and dinner times on Thursday, and at lunch time on Friday.

Representatives from most of the offered study abroad programs will be available to give more information for those students interested in the process of learning off campus. There are around 40 programs available for students to enroll in.

For those who are already signed up and ready to board the plane, the United States Post Office will be there on Friday from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. to renew and issue passports. The Post Office personnel will have the DS-11 forms and will take passport pictures here on site. Students and faculty will need to bring:

  • Certified Birth Certificate
  • Valid Driver′s License
  • Copy of both front and back of driver′s license on one side of 8x11 paper
  • Two checks (one will be written in the amount of $95 and the other in the amount of $25)

Complete passport information is at http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/first/first_830.html.

“These off-campus studies can aide in boosting a student′s career aspirations, self-esteem, worldview and educational performance by not just learning about them from a lecture, but physically seeing them in person and engaging first hand with the culture,” says Ann Burkhead, Director of Crossroads.

The first group of students to participate in the Geneva College Semester in Rome program left for Italy on September 9, 2009. Other students studying abroad currently will be representing Geneva College while residing in Spain, New Zealand, Scotland, Latin America, Italy, Arizona, Korea, Jerusalem, Lithuania, Pittsburgh and New York.
