Crestview Hills, KY - The Geneva College women′s volleyball team has lost only five times in its first 16 matches of the season. The Golden Tornadoes suffered their fifth defeat on Tuesday night and it was also the second time this year that Geneva has dropped a match to Thomas More. Making the five hour trip to Kentucky on Tuesday, the Golden Tornadoes could not make the trip worthwhile in a 3-0 loss to the Saints by scores of 25-13, 25-18, 25-23. While Geneva fell to 11-5 on the season, Thomas More won for the 13th time in its last 14 matches and improved to 14-6 on the season.
Geneva dropped its second straight match which is a first for the 2009 season. The Golden Tornadoes have hit a low point in offensive production and once again struggled to generate much on the offensive side of the floor against the Saints. With its leading offensive threat Adriane Blake limited because of a back injury, Geneva has turned to some younger players for production. Sophomore Rachel Kuegler and freshman Maggie Bowersox led Geneva′s offense with six kills each in the three-game loss. Brandi Snavely finished the match with 22 assists while Brianna Mixter led the defense with 17 digs.
The Golden Tornadoes will travel to Grove City on Saturday for a pair of matches. Geneva will open against the host Wolverines before taking on Roberts Wesleyan in the first match of the season that could decide Geneva′s NCCAA post-season fate. Geneva returns home next Tuesday night to take on Bethany College.
