Beaver Falls, PA - Because of wet field conditions on Saturday morning, the Geneva College women′s soccer match between Geneva and Grove City was moved to Reeves Field to be played on the field turf surface. The change of venue did not help the Golden Tornadoes as an early Grove City goal held up and Geneva dropped a 1-0 decision to the Wolverines. The loss dropped Geneva′s overall record to 7-4 while Grove City improved to 4-5-1.

Michelle Peck found the net for Grove City 21 minutes into the match and that proved to be the only offense the Wolverines would need. Grove City controlled much of the time of possession and field position for the match. The Wolverines out shot Geneva 28-10 for the match and missed on several key opportunities to extend the lead in the second half. On two occasions Geneva defenders kicked the ball off of the goal line to prevent scores. Geneva goalkeeper Lauren Londino made nine saves but came away with a hard luck loss.

Geneva′s best opportunity to tie the game came in the final ten minutes when Maura Allen bounced a shot off of the Grove City goalkeeper from eight yards away and the rebound bounced wide.

The Golden Tornadoes will try to put the loss behind them by Tuesday evening when they host Washington & Jefferson in the second of three straight conference home matches.
