Geneva, PA - Today was the day Geneva football head coach Geno DeMarco and his players have been looking forward to ever since an embarrassing 37-13 loss a year ago. The Golden Tornadoes put that loss in the rear view mirror on Saturday as they came back from 14 points down to pull out a 34-17 homecoming victory in front of a capacity crowd at Reeves Field. The victory moved Geneva to 4-1 on the season while the Wolverines fell to 2-4.

Other than the beautiful sun filled skies and a sellout crowd of over 6600 on hand, the game didn′t start the way Geneva had hoped. In fact, the Golden Tornadoes watched Grove City score a pair of first quarter touchdowns to take a 14-0 lead. Trailing by 14 into the second quarter, Geneva finally got its offense on track and found the end zone on a Matt Barge eight-yard run to cap a 12 play, 82 yard drive. Matt Dean plunged into the end zone from one-yard out to tie the game at 14 each with 1:30 remaining in the half. Grove City rushed the ball down the field and capitalized on a 37 yard Craig Bisehouse field goal after he a missed a 42-yarder but got another chance after a Geneva offside penalty. Geneva trailed 17-14 going into the locker room, but came out and dominated play in the final 30 minutes.

Geneva scored the only 20 points of the second half and outgained Grove City 222-93 in the second half. The Golden Tornadoes took a lead they would never relinquish on the first of three second half touchdowns from Gerard Muschette. Muschette scored on runs of four, three and seven yards to put the game away. For the game, Muschette carried the ball 17 times for a career high 219 yards.

Through the air, David Girardi completed 10-13 passes for 146 yards. Perhaps the turning point came early in the fourth quarter when Rashad Briscoe blocked a field goal and Adam Rose returned it down the sidelines to the Grove City three yard line. Muschette scored one play later and Geneva took control of the game.

In addition to the field goal block, Geneva also recovered a fumble on a kickoff return that led to another second half score. Javon Moody led the defense with nine tackles while Aaron Tommelleo finished the game with eight tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss.

Geneva will head back to the road next Saturday for a date with Waynesburg University. The Golden Tornadoes will welcome Saint Vincent to Reeves Field on September 24th for a rematch of Geneva′s victory back in week two.
