Beaver Falls, PA - Not only were the emotions running high for seniors Jamie Gessner and Rebekah Bigenho in the final home game of their career, but the Golden Tornadoes were facing a must win situation in the next of last game of the year. The night ended on a good night in all respects as the two Geneva seniors will take away a winning memory as the Golden Tornadoes defeated Waynesburg 3-0 in the regular season home finale. The victory pushed Geneva′s record back to .500 at 8-8 and will force another important game in the season finale on Friday.

Geneva had dropped its last five matches, including three consecutive one-goal defeats. The Golden Tornadoes were determined not to let that happen on Wednesday as the offense got going early on a Melissa Byrdy goal just eight minutes into the game. Senior Jamie Gessner picked up one of the assists on the goal in her final home game. The 1-0 lead held up through halftime, but Geneva was able to build upon it just three minutes into the second half.

Maura Allen headed a perfect cross from Robin Webster into the back of the net for Geneva′s second goal of the match. Elise Mann notched her team leading eighth goal of the year to close out the scoring on a blast from 20 yards out in the 59th minute.

Lauren Londino registered her fourth shut-out of the season in having to make only one save in the match. Geneva dominated the field position with a decisive 22-3 edge in total shots.

In order for Geneva to qualify for the NCCAA post-season, it must at least gain a tie in the season finale at Thiel on Friday afternoon. A win or a tie will enable the Golden Tornadoes to move on to the NCCAA east regional in November.
