Dr. Mark FutatoGeneva College welcomes Dr. Mark Futato as this year′s J.G. Vos Memorial lecturer. Futato will speak on “Psalm 8: A Meditation on Majesty” on Thursday, October 15, at 7 p.m. in the John H. White Chapel. He will also address the campus community in Geneva′s weekly chapel service on Wednesday, October 14, 10:10 a.m., in the Metheny Fieldhouse. Both events are open to the public.

Futato serves as academic dean and professor of Old Testament at the Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, Florida. He is also a minister in the Presbyterian Church in America.

Futato is the author of six books, including Joy Comes in the Morning: Psalms for all Seasons and Beginning Biblical Hebrew, and has served on the translation team for the Book of Psalms in the New Living Translation (Tyndale House). He also wrote the study notes to the Books of Ezra and Nehemiah in Spirit of the Reformation Study Bible (Zondervan) and is currently working on a book discussing the theology of the book of Jonah.

A graduate of Geneva College, Futato received his Ph.D. from the Catholic University of America and his M.Div. from Westminster Seminary.

In addition to the Vos Memorial lecture, Futato will speak at a pastor′s luncheon on Thursday, October 15, 12 p.m. in Geneva′s Alexander Hall. The event is free, but reservations are required. Contact Becky Phillips, associate director of parent and church relations, at 724-847-6843.
