Canton, OH - The reality of athletics can sometimes be harsh and disappointing. When the season comes down to a single day of competition, the end can seem quite sudden. Such was the case for the Geneva College volleyball team on Tuesday night. The Golden Tornadoes traveled to Malone College to take on the Pioneers and Mt. Vernon Nazarene in what amounted to the NCCAA east regional tournament. A pair of victories would have sent Geneva to its first NCCAA national tournament, but instead the Golden Tornadoes saw their season come to an end with a pair of losses. Geneva dropped a 3-1 decision to Malone before falling 3-0 to Mt. Vernon in the night cap. The Golden Tornadoes ended their season with an overall record of 19-12.

Mt. Vernon Nazarene and Malone entered play on Tuesday as the number one and two ranked teams in the most recent NCCAA poll respectively. In what was clearly a difficult task for Geneva to beat both teams on the same night became a harsh reality by night′s end with losses to both former AMC foes.

In the first match of the evening Geneva fell to Malone 3-1 with scores of 25-23, 25-22, 22-25, 25-21. The Golden Tornadoes certainly had their opportunities in the match but were unable to fulfill those chances late in games one, two and four. Adriane Blake led the offense with 20 kills with teammate Rachel Kuegler posting 12 kills. Brandi Snavely led the way with 43 assists with Brianna Mixter finishing the first match with a team best 20 digs.

Geneva did not have much left in the tank for the night cap as Mt. Vernon beat the Golden Tornadoes in three straight games by scores of 25-19, 25-10 and 25-22 and thus ending the season for Geneva.
