Beaver Falls, PA - A slow start on your home floor can be overcome with some hot shooting down the stretch. For the Geneva College men′s basketball team a slow start coupled with an off night from the field resulted in a 91-81 loss to Marymount University in the Coaches vs. Cancer Tip-Off Tournament championship in Beaver Falls. One night after cruising past Penn State New Kensington, the Golden Tornadoes could not find the shooting touch from long distance and fell back to 1-1 on the early season.

Geneva went down 8-0 to start the game and could never recover. Pulling to within two points on three separate occasions in the first half, Geneva was never able to claim the lead. Marymount stretched its lead to 15 points with a three-point field goal at the halftime buzzer by the count of 47-32. Geneva was just 2-13 from three point range in the first half and made only ten field goals in the first 20 minutes.

The second half was much of the same as the Golden Tornadoes finished the game shooting 42% from the field and just 21% from three point range. Geneva cut the lead to eight points twice with ten minutes remaining in the game but could not get any closer. Marymount put the game away from the line in the final moments and snuck out of town with the tournament title.

Rich Colick did all he could to keep Geneva in the game with a 28 point performance including a 15-15 effort from the foul line. Colick connected on only 1-6 from three-point range, which was a common theme on Saturday night. Brandon Harvey chipped in with 19 points and was Geneva′s only long distance threat with four three point field goals in the loss. Both Colick and Harvey were named to the All-Tournament team.

Joining the Geneva duo on the All-Tournament team was Marymount′s Ronnie Barbour, who posted 13 points in the championship. Teammate Tarek Amoury was the tournament MVP after a 23 points performance on 8-10 shooting from the field.

"We didn′t bring our defense to forefront tonight and got beat by a very good basketball team," said head coach Jeff Santarsiero. "We got off to a slow start and could never truly recover. We couldn′t make a big shot to get the momentum and when we started playing better, they had an answer every time."

Geneva will travel to Baldwin-Wallace on Monday before a date with Division I Youngstown State on Tuesday night. The Golden Tornadoes return home next Saturday afternoon against LaRoche College.
