Beaver Falls, PA - Geneva′s women′s basketball team opened its home schedule on Saturday night with positive results. The Golden Tornadoes used a 16-2 second half run to race away from Point Park and close out an 84-75 victory over the Pioneers. Geneva moved to 2-1 on the season as Point Park fell to 2-2. Each teamed moved up and down the court in a fast paced first half that saw Geneva get to the locker room with a 47-43 lead. Geneva shot a sizzling 70% from the field in the first 20 minutes including a 4-8 effort from three-point range. Despite the incredibly hot shooting, Geneva only led by four points as the Pioneers knocked down eight three point field goals in the first stanza.

Trailing 56-49 with 16:30 to play in the second half, Point Park scored eight straight points to take a 57-56 lead with 14 minutes remaining in regulation. Trailing by two at 60-58 with 11:15 remaining, the Golden Tornadoes ran off 16 of the next 18 points to post a 74-62 lead with just over six minutes remaining in the game. Point Park was never able to recover down the stretch. Geneva opened up a 14 point advantage with four minutes to play and cruised down the stretch for its second win of the season.

Valerie Hamilton led four Geneva scorers to reach double figures with a team best 19 points. Renee Rawding scored 15 points, Alyse Scarsella added 14 and Rachel Barry chipped in with 12 points off the bench. Scarsella also added 11 rebounds in the victory. Freshman Leah Prisuta filled the stat sheet with nine points, seven rebounds and six assists to help Geneva′s cause in the victory.

Point Park was led by freshman April Austin′s 31 points including 6-9 from three-point land. The Pioneers hurt their own cause by converting on only 16-27 from the foul line in the game while Geneva was 27-38 from the charity stripe.

Geneva will travel to Penn State Beaver on Tuesday and to Fredonia State next Saturday afternoon.
