New Wilmington, PA - Trailing by 17 points at the half and falling behind 55-30 just four minutes into the second half, the Geneva College women′s basketball team rallied to cut the lead into single digits but eventually fell short by the score of 76-61. The loss was Geneva′s fifth straight overall and eighth straight on the road as it dropped to 5-10 for the season. Meanwhile, Westminster won for the third time in four games to improve to 6-8 overall.
"We are in search of a 40 minute effort," said head coach Renee Drake. "We can′t expect to win games when we don′t show up for half of the game." Drake referring to the fact that her club fell behind 45-28 after the half and could not come all the way back against the Titans, she did see her team play a much better second half against the Titans.
Geneva shot 39% from the field while turning the ball over 16 times in the game. Westminster shot 54% from the field in the first half while extending its lead to 17 points after 20 minutes of play. Despite the loss, Geneva′s Christine Carugati paced the Golden Tornadoes off the bench with 15 points on 5-9 shooting from the field. Joining Carugati′s offensive effort was Val Hamilton with 13 points and Alyse Scarsella posting 12 points in the loss.
The Golden Tornadoes got a strong dose of the Dolsak sisters as Amy Dolsak scored a game high 25 points with sister Emily Dolsak scoring 16 points. "We knew we would have to provide a strong defensive effort against them and we just didn′t fulfill those goals for 40 minutes."
Geneva will gladly return to Metheny Fieldhouse on Wednesday night with a meeting against Waynesburg at 6 pm.
