New Wilmington, PA - Geneva′s men′s basketball team is hitting its stride as it picked up its fourth consecutive victory on Saturday with a 75-57 victory over rival Westminster. In a game in which Geneva never trailed, the Golden Tornadoes improved to 9-7 on the season including back to back road wins against both Grove City and Westminster.

Sophomore Dave Phillips knocked in a three-point shot on his first attempt of the game and it was all good news from that point. "It is essential for us to get good opportunities early in the game for our confidence," said head coach Jeff Santarsiero. "When our guys are shooting the ball effectively, it makes us very difficult to defend."

The Golden Tornadoes opened up a 13 point halftime lead and never allowed the Titans to recover. Westminster did manage to cut the lead to eight mid-way through the half, but Geneva pulled away late thanks to a 50% shooting effort from the field as a team. Rich Colick led the offensive attack with 18 points while Phillips picked up 16 points and Bryan Hill added 12 points on four three-point field goals.

"Our guys are really having a fun time playing together," said Santarsiero. "I am very pleased with our effort this week with a pair of road games, but it will be nice to get home."

Geneva′s defense held the Titans to only 39% shooting while forcing 17 turnovers along the way. It has been the Geneva defense that has held opponents under its offensive average for three straight games.

Geneva returns to Metheny Fieldhouse next week with games against Waynesburg on Wednesday and W & J on Saturday afternoon.
