Beaver Falls, PA - Two things were evident for the Geneva College women′s basketball team on Wednesday night. First off, the Golden Tornadoes were no longer playing on the road where they have not won this season. Secondly, sophomore forward Alyse Scarsella was on a mission to help Geneva put an end to its five game losing streak. Scarsella and her Golden Tornado teammates got their way with a 75-55 victory over Waynesburg University. The victory pushed Geneva′s overall record to 6-10 while Waynesburg dropped to 5-11.

Scarsella was dominant on both ends of the floor with a career high 18 points and 16 rebounds in the victory. "We needed some people to step up for us and Alyse did an outstanding job," said head coach Renee Drake. "It was not the prettiest victory of the season, but it feels good to get one in that column after dropping five straight." Scarsella got some help from her friends as Beth DeLuca added 13 points and Val Hamilton posted 12 points in the win.

Geneva took a nine-point lead into the half and never allowed Waynesburg to get within six points in the final 20 minutes. In a game filled with fouls on both ends the final tally read 51 total team fouls. The Golden Tornadoes were able to put the game away at the foul line in the final minutes as they extended to their biggest lead of the game at the final whistle. "We wanted to finish the game strong and we were able to close them out down the stretch," said Drake. Geneva finished the game 25-35 from the foul line while shooting 45% from the field. Waynesburg managed only 17 field goals for the game and shot just 28% from the field.

Geneva will play at home again on Saturday as it welcomes 22nd ranked Washington & Jefferson to Metheny Fieldhouse for a 1 pm tip-off.
